The credit for the existence of JNU goes to Sh. Kamal Mehta who has been a banker and CA since 1998. The foundation stone was laid down by Mr. Mehta who realized the basic need of Rajasthan citizens. The university fulfils the requirements of professional and technical education in the area. It was set up under the act of state government private university. It covers an area of 30 acres containing more than 13,000 students and recognized by UGC of India

Engineering and Technology: - Jodhpur Engineering College & Research Centre founded in 2002 delivers unparalleled unique education with quality in the field of technology. The level of education is equalled with IIT. The classes are run with LCD/OH projectors and the materials are provided online as well as hard copies that can be obtained from the library.
Medicines and Health: - The Jodhpur National University is proud to have the first recognized dental college in Western Rajasthan. Jodhpur Dental college General hospital also known as JDCGH is proudly run by experienced and skilled teaching faculties who always apply modern technologies while teaching. The branches of dentistry include Prosthodontics, Restorative dentistry, Endodontics, Periodontology, Orthodontics and Paediatric dentistry. The college provides studies in such a way that doctors when passed out can easily practice independently.
Management: - The management courses are not based on theoretical knowledge but practical. The university is the best place for preparing entrepreneurs. Students studying management are also made familiar with field work each Saturday. They are given individual projects to complete. Most importantly, on a regular basis, speeches by recognized businesspersons are organized in the campus. The students get chances to meet their favourite and ideal business persons.
Pharmaceutical Sciences: - FOPS (Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences) opens the various windows towards the carrier in pharmacy in Western Rajasthan. The faculty is approved by PCI (Pharmacy Council of India). The university offers Diploma, Bachelor and Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical sciences. It also offers doctorate (Ph.D.) as higher education and researches are done here.
Computer Application: - In this advanced and technological world, every domain needs computer. To fulfil this requirement the JNU has stepped further and set up a branch for computer application. The faculty teaches students about all possible aspects of computers from basic to advanced knowledge. Apart from that, since computer required knowledge of English, the university also conducts English classes which improve personality and speaking power of students.
Faculty of Applied Science: - Applied science has always given a chance to the students in research fields and JNU understands this very well. So the university started this faculty to create a central point in Western Rajasthan where student can get knowledge of Biotechnology, Microbiology and several other related courses.
Law: - JNU has always been known for exploring the best kind of legal education that is actually needed in the world nowadays. There is a great need of legal practitioners and professionals. With this goal in mind the university started this faculty and hired best staffs. These staffs are best in their knowledge for legal education and therefore the passed out lawyers easily get selected in legal firms or in judiciary examinations.
Moreover the university also offers distance education programs such as Bachelor in Business administration, Bachelor in Computer Application and Masters in Business Administration. For Commerce stream, the JNU runs Bachelor in Commerce as a distant program.
